NISA Creates New Amateur Affiliation With Recently Re-Branded Cascadia Premier League

Aug 26, 2021

CHICAGO (August 26, 2021) – The National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) proudly announces an amateur league affiliation with the recently re-branded Cascadia Premier League (Cascadia), headquartered in Federal Way, Wash. Cascadia re-branded from the Western Washington Soccer League to better reflect its growth, and will enact the brand for the 2022 season.

"This affiliation represents another bold move for independent soccer strengthening its network across the United States,” says NISA Executive Vice President Josh Prutch. "The commitment of the league and the talent in the region are very attractive to how NISA seeks to provide opportunities for player, staff and club growth.”

Cascadia joins a growing list of amateur affiliates forged this decade that includes the Gulf Coast Premier League, Eastern Premier Soccer League, the Mountain Premier League, the Midwest Premier League, and the Southwest (formerly SoCal) Premier League.

“Our re-brand was inevitable as we have grown outside of Western Washington,” said Cascadia Executive Director Trent Siedenburg. “Anticipating our affiliation with NISA, we wanted to better represent the region in which we participate, while also increasing exposure at a regional and national level. NISA aligns with our vision – clubs and players first. Everything we have done to this point has been in support and growth for our clubs and their players. We know partnering with NISA will exponentially grow those efforts and we are excited to see what is in store for 2022!”

Like the other recent affiliation agreements, NISA will allow Cascadia at least two merit-based spots in the annual NISA Independent Cup tournament. Cascadia also will be an active participant on the NISA Alliance Board which manages the interconnectedness of the growing number of affiliates.

The league sports 14 squads representing 12 clubs playing in a first and second division in Washington State. Current participants include Federal Way FC, Gala FC, Grays Harbor FC, Harbor Force, HF 2, ISC Gunners, Kirkland FC, Lacey FC, Nido Aguila C.A., Nido 2, Northern Peninsula FC, Seattle Umoja FC, Snohomish County FC, and Wenatchee All-Stars. The current season wraps up on Sept. 12.

About Cascadia Premier League (Western Washington Premier League)

Cascadia first began as the WWPL in 2018, serving only the west side of the state. Since then, the league has grown from 7 to 14 men's squads with more men's clubs and women's league ready to debut in 2022 (details to come). The WWPL's brand and reach grew to the point where it could no longer be contained, and Wenatchee All-Stars were added to the ranks. The WWPL decided to better represent its current members, while allowing room for clubs outside of the Western Washington region, a rebrand would be in order to fully encompass the landscape, encourage new clubs to join, and better serve all involved. As the league expands, Cascadia will encourage clubs from Oregon to apply. As the league grows to fit the greater Cascadia region, adding clubs from Oregon will play in integral part in providing more players and clubs opportunities to be seen.
