WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI (October 13, 2025) - Opening Day for the 2025 NISA Pro Cup is in the books, and while it wasn't perfect it was filled with passion.
With eight clubs converging from across the country to one site, logistics were on everyone's minds.
From here to there, a total of 14 goals, two send offs and one shootout were accounted for on Matchday 1.
Northern Colorado Hailstorm 4, Modesto City FC 0
It took 20 minutes to warm into the match, but Bamadele Esan scored the first two goals of the Cup as Hailstorm took care of a two- and three-man advantage to win the tournament opener.
Travis Ward added a third goal and Carlos Valenzuela a fourth before halftime for Hailstorm, which previously played in USL League One.
Modesto City FC started with only nine players before left back Jose Mosqueda took a hard fall near the touchline and walked off. Another player suffered a hamstring injury and the team made the decision to abandon the match at halftime.
Los Angeles Force 4, Arkansas Wolves SC 2
The reigning NISA champion is ready to defend its title.
Jose Cartegena, Joel Quist and Michael Salazar gave L.A. Force a 3-0 lead before Arkansas Wolves SC pulled two back late goals in the Group A opener.
Salazar, a Belize international, asisted on Quist's goal in the 82nd minute before scoring for himself 4 minutes later as L.A. Force pushed its lead.
George Almeida scored from a header off a a corner kick as Arkansas Wolves got on the scoreboard in the 88th minute, but L.A. Force's Bruan Ortega added another in stoppage time before Wolves' Diasuke Otsuke grabbed one more at 90+4.
Capo FC 1, Sin City 1 (Capo FC wins 3-2 in PKs)
A match that was determined from the penalty spot.
Jonathan Estrada put a first half penalty kick into the back of the net in the 37th minute for Capo FC before David Villanueva equalized in the 80th minute for Sin City to send the match to kick from the mark per tournament rules.
After a miss by Roberto Soto to start the shootout, Estrada fired into the upper corner and Capo FC's first three to the mark gave the the San Juan Capistrano, CA-based club a 3-2 lead before Edwin Gutierrez made back-to-back saves to finish the job.
Sin City FC goalkeeper Miguel Duenas, Jr. made several critical saves in the second half to help Sin City FC reach the shootout and earn a point.
DC Hyper 2, Peak XI FC 0
The ability for a winger to torch an opponent with a well-placed cross was on display in the final match on Day 1.
DC Hyper grabbed a lead with a little bit of luck off an early cross before Fabio Gigoberto Junior tapped in another pin-point pass in the second half of a tight defensive matchup.
Peak XI FC did well to keep its shape but but the ball knocked off a defender in the 48th minute, and DC Hyper's experienced pressing and passing kept the Superior, CO-based club on its heels in the second half.
